PHILOSOPHY Ask Phoenix

A 44.2-metre Feadship from 2015, repainted and fully serviced in spring 2024.

Ask Phoenix

An eleven-year-old Feadship, repainted in 2024

Feadship built PHILOSOPHY in the Netherlands in 2015, with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. In spring 2024 she was repainted in full and every system aboard was serviced.

Paint and the 10-year special survey are the two big bills of a yacht's second decade. On PHILOSOPHY the paint is done, and the survey was due by the end of April 2025. Ask Phoenix for the survey report before anything else.

Swim against a current on the aft deck

The pool at her stern is a counter-flow pool. A current runs against you, so you can swim on the spot for as long as you like. On the plans it takes room on two decks.

The main deck plan marks the pool with a lifting floor, which would turn it back into deck when nobody is swimming. Ask Phoenix to confirm it is fitted as drawn.

Who she suits, and who she doesn't

A good match

  • A family or a group of up to eight who want a crew to match: eight guests, eight crew.
  • Owners who move her between seasons under her own power. 3,850 nautical miles at 10 knots.
  • Swimmers. The pool on the aft deck has a current to swim against.
  • A buyer who wants a Feadship now, without waiting for a build slot.

Probably not

  • Anyone in a hurry. She cruises at 12 knots and tops out at 15.
  • Groups of more than eight. Four staterooms is the limit.
